Adams County, Colorado logoI have been off the radar in recent weeks as I took a bit of a sabbatical from writing following the always hectic election season.  That however doesn’t mean I haven’t been paying attention.  Here are some thoughts on recent happenings in Adams County:

Adams County seizes control of Front Range Airport: The board of commissioners disbanded the independent airport authority and pulled the facility fully under the county umbrella.  Certainly there have been some issues out there and greater oversight is needed.  However when reading the story I couldn’t help but doubt the BOCC’s ability to turn things around.  Their track record is not particularly good in handling the county as is and this is a regional airport that has great potential – if they don’t screw it up.  (Denver Post)

FasTracks to the north area gets the go ahead: Choo choo fans and local politicos that had staked their reputations on the multi-billion dollar FasTracks boondoggle cheered as RTD said they had agreed on a contract to start building the North Rail Line.  Pardon me while I roll my eyes.  RTD and these politicians want area citizens to ignore the fact that the project is delayed and well over budget.  For RTD, they of course don’t want you to remember it was their mismanagement and lying that got us into this mess in the first place.  Sorry, I won’t cheer for this fleecing of taxpayers.  (Denver Post)

Board of commissioners set for expansion:  Two new seats on the board of commissioners are up for grabs in the 2014 election.  Normally I am against bigger government but I was one of the biggest advocates of this.  For decades Adams County residents have fell victim to any two friends on the board and their crooked dealings.  This will hopefully rectify that issue.  Of course it also needs to be coupled with the election of principled leaders who we can trust.  Voters in the county have not done a particularly good job on that front.  (Denver Post)

2014 local elections: A number of candidates have declared their intentions to run for the new county commissioner seats as well as sheriff.  As always, there are some of the old Adams Family in there that voters need to beware of but there are some other candidates worthy of consideration.  I’ll be covering more of these as we get closer to the caucuses.
